For my wife and me, a pet shop “scam” involving a fake Shiba Inu didn’t just break our trust\u2014it became a decade-long destiny. This is the story of Deokgu, a dog sold as a “purebred” who ended up building his own miraculous family in the hills of Paju, South Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The “100% Shiba Inu” That Wasn’t<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Years ago, at a shop in Bucheon, we were sold a puppy the owner swore was a purebred Shiba Inu. Even then, we knew: he was a classic Shiba Inu<\/a> mix<\/strong>, a charming Sigorjab-reu<\/em> (Korean village dog). My wife insisted, “If we don’t take him, nobody will.” So, Deokgu became the newest member of our family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dog That Changed Everything<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before Deokgu, our house was peaceful\u2014perhaps a bit too quiet\u2014with our calm seniors, Dorothy and Leo. Then came Deokgu, a whirlwind of energy. He would zoom through the living room and fearlessly pester his big brother Leo to play. Yet, when the sun went down, his “absurdly cute” side took over, as he refused to sleep anywhere except tucked right next to Leo<\/p>\n\n\n\n
